Silk Painting for Beginners - 4 Wednesday Mornings with Ann McFadden.Silk Painting, it's easy, it's clean, it's fun, and you get startlingly beautiful results. During this series of classes you will introduced to this gentle and relaxing art and you will make your own silk scarf which you will be able to take home and wear with pride. Silk painting is the art of applying special dye to silks. The process begins with a luxurious base of precious, pure white, China silk which has a design embossed onto it. This fabric is stretched tightly on a frame. The magic of the process comes from the images and combinations that emerge within the embossed design boundaries. The purity and the intensity of color that emerges during the painting process is amazing, all items are steamed for many hours, and this sets the dye and increases the intensity of the color even more. Originally the willow was grown for inclusion in the wide range of baskets produced by basketmaker Cathy at her workshop in Drumcannon, outside Tramore. In recent years however the home-grown willow has been used mainly by Eamonn in the construction of living willow structures. This BFA degree offers a broad and holistic approach to the performing arts, one that not only concentrates on performance from a participatory perspective (that is to say, on being a performer), but also prepares the student for the wide and exciting range of careers available in the performing arts industry. While performance remains a central aspect of the programme, students are also prepared for the vast array of work that supports and produces performance, such as directing and staging, creating written material for performance, production, management, marketing and funding of the performing arts. The programme is based around live theatrical performance (with elements of recording used for diagnostic and development purposes), but at the same time a graduate is prepared for further study in all cognate specialisms in the performing arts, as well as for direct entry into a professional career.
